The skirts are the piece: six hundred lengths of enameled copper wire per dancer, crimped at the waistband so they hang straight and flare on a turn. They weigh nothing and sound like rain. We rehearsed the lifts with the skirts on from the first week, because a wire skirt changes where a partner can put a hand.
