Eighteen looks in linen, silk and straw, cut so that everyone on stage looks like the same afternoon except Vera. Her scarlet crepe was the first thing I sketched and the last thing we finished: the fringe is knotted by hand so it swings a half beat behind her. The boaters came from a hat block I had made in Vienna and blocked myself.
